The first of his family to attend college, Corey graduated summa cum laude in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and previously earned an Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems. Although Corey originally anticipated attending graduate school to obtain an advanced degree in Computer Forensics or Criminal Justice, his passion for advocating for the underrepresented, including animals and the environment, led him to law school.
While attending law school, Corey received Book Awards for having the highest grades in Animals and the Law, Ocean and Coastal Law, and International Environmental Law, served as a Research Assistant to Professor Elizabeth DeCoux (Torts, Evidence, Animals and the Law), and secured internships at Equal Justice Alliance, Public Trust Environmental Legal Institute of Florida (now called the Public Trust for Conservation), and the City of Jacksonville, Florida Environmental Quality Division. In 2013, Corey graduated in the top twenty percent of his class and earned a Juris Doctor, Environmental Law Certificate, and Pro Bono Honors.
Corey was awarded a Legal Fellowship at PETA Foundation before graduating law school, and was offered a counsel position in 2014. Corey had the distinction of being the youngest attorney and manager in the Legal Department at PETA Foundation (currently called the Philip J. Hirschkop Legal Department) for several years. Corey has been promoted several times at PETA Foundation and currently serves in the role of Deputy General Counsel, Corporate Legal Affairs, in which he oversees a Legal Administrative Assistant, Legal Assistant, and Corporate and Policy Associate.
